The members of Resurrection Lutheran Church attempt to live their faith by showing the love of God to members of the community and those in need. These are our active ministries:
Care Net: Resurrection Lutheran Church provides volunteers to assist with meal preparation, interviewing clients, filing at the Bidwell Street & to staff the Care Net Thrift Store. This involves anywhere from 3-6 hours on a regular basis, but that could be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. The number of volunteers fluctuates but they always can use more.
Great Beginnings Pre School: Volunteers assist with lunch, Monday-Friday. This takes about an hour, from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Husband & wife teams are particularly efficient.
Martha Ministries: Provides meals to members of the congregation when they are ill, return from the hospital, etc.
The Serving Spoon: We continue to provide meals for The Serving Spoon four times a year (every third month). This usually entails meeting at the church kitchen about 4:00 p.m. & preparing a meal for about 45 people. The food is then taken to the Jaycees Building & served at 6:00 p.m.
Teen Challenge: We attempt to fulfill special requests from Teen Challenge as well as providing bread once a week.
Union School: We have adopted the teachers at Union School who, due to staffing cuts have no free periods during the day. Union School serves a population of students that have additional needs. Many of their students are homeless, in foster care or have other difficulties in their life. Once a month we take out treats for staff for breakfast.
Bread Ministry: Resurrection has an active bread ministry. Monday through Friday we pick up extra bread from Subway on Highlands Road. The bread is delivered to Care Net, St Francis Food Pantry, The Serving Spoon & Teen Challenge.
Lutheran Women in Mission: Every woman who is a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church is automatically a member of LWML. LWML meets weekly eight months of the year. They help GBPS at lunch. They construct approximately 100 quilts a season to ship to Lutheran World Relief. If you don’t sew, they can always use help tying knots in the quilts. If you don’t quilt & don’t want to tie knots, they often need help with washing & ironing donated sheets which we use for backing for the quilts. They maintain a greeting card cart, where greeting cards are for sale at a discounted price and they have a Sunshine Ministry which sends greeting cards to members of the congregation who are ill or who suffer a loss.
Stephen Ministries: Stephen Ministry is the one-to-one lay caring ministry that takes place in our congregation that uses the Stephen Ministry system. Stephen Ministry congregations equip and empower lay caregivers called Stephen Ministries to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting. If you know of someone who could benefit by being seen by a Stephen Minister, Please click Here for more info.
Haitian Mission: Resurrection has long partnered with various missions in Haiti and our most recent endeavor was to collect enough children’s shoes to provide a pair to every child in the mission school.
Missionaries in Wales: Resurrection provides yearly financial assistance for missionaries in Wales.
Men’s Prayer Breakfast: Meets the first Saturday of each month in the back room at the Sunset restaurant & all men are encouraged to attend.
Women’s Prayer Breakfast: Meets the third Saturday of each month in the back room of the Sunset & all women are encouraged to attend.
Hospice House: Looking ahead, our next door neighbors have just broken ground at Four Seasons Hospice House. We anticipate partnering with them once construction is complete.
